Business Glossary
The Business Glossary serves as a centralized repository for standardized business terms and definitions within the Metadata Catalog. It unifies business vocabulary with technical metadata and enterprise data assets, enabling a shared understanding of key concepts across business and technical teams. By aligning terminology with underlying datasets and systems, the Business Glossary improves data discovery, interpretation, and adoption across the organization. The Business Glossary helps establish consistency, reduce ambiguity, and promote governance by acting as a single source of truth for business terminology.

Adding Business Glossary Terms
You can create business terms in the Business Glossary to define standardized terminology and establish a shared understanding across the organization. Each glossary term represents a business concept and can be associated with domains and technical assets.
To add a new Business Glossary term:
- Log in to Impetus LeapLogic Catalog.
- From the left navigation pane, select Metadata Catalog > Business Glossary.
- Click + Add Term.
- In Term Name, enter the name of the business term.
- In Abbreviation / Acronym, enter the abbreviation or acronym for the term, if applicable.
- In Business Definition, provide a clear, business‑friendly description of the term.
- In Technical Description, describe how the term is calculated, derived, or sourced.
- In Domain, select the appropriate business domain for the term.
- In Synonyms, enter alternate names for the term, separated by commas.
- In Tags, enter a tag (minimum three characters) and press Enter to add it.
- Click Create to save the glossary term.
Exploring the Business Glossary
The Business Glossary provides a centralized view of all business terms defined within the Metadata Catalog. It serves as the primary workspace for discovering, filtering, and managing standardized business terminology. By unifying business terms, their definitions, and related technical assets, the Business Glossary improves data discovery, understanding, and adoption across the organization.
The Business Glossary page presents key indicators that provide quick visibility into the glossary landscape:
- Total Terms: The number of defined business glossary terms
- Total Domains: The number of business domains
- Linked Assets: Data assets associated with glossary terms
You can filter glossary terms based on domains, allowing you to focus on specific business areas such as Finance, Healthcare, or Analytics. By selecting one or more domains from the Domains panel, you can refine the list of displayed glossary terms to view only the terms relevant to the selected domains. The page also supports searching glossary terms by name or keyword to quickly locate specific terms.
In addition to browsing and filtering business glossary terms, you can perform actions such as View, Edit, and Delete on individual glossary terms by clicking the More Actions menu on the glossary term card.
View
The View option allows you to view all details of the selected glossary term. To view a glossary term:
- Click More Actions (⋮) on the required Business Glossary term card and select View.
- Review the glossary term details, including the term name, abbreviation or acronym, business definition, technical description, domain, synonyms, tags, related terms, and linked data assets.
- If you need to update the glossary term, click Edit from the View Term window.
- Make the required changes and click Update to save the changes.
Edit
The Edit option allows you to modify the details of an existing glossary term. To edit a glossary term:
- Click More Actions (⋮) on the Business Glossary term card and select Edit.
- In the Edit Term window, update the required fields, such as Term Name, Abbreviation / Acronym, Business Definition, Technical Description, Domain, Synonyms (comma separated), Tags, and more.
- In Related Terms, add or remove related business terms such as synonyms, parent or child terms, or conceptually related terms.
- In Linked Data Assets, manage the data assets associated with the term:
- To add an asset, type at least three characters to search and select the required table, column, or report.
- To remove an asset, delete the existing link as required.
- Click Update to save the changes.
Delete
The Delete option permanently removes a glossary term from the Business Glossary. To delete a glossary term:
- Click More Actions (⋮) on the Business Glossary term card.
- Select Delete.
- In the Confirm Delete dialog, click Delete to confirm the deletion.
