Metadata Sync
Metadata Sync ensures continuous alignment between your metadata catalog and evolving source systems. Instead of relying on repetitive crawling cycles, the sync process supports seamless updates that keep your catalog aligned with the latest structural and descriptive changes. This prevents metadata drift from day one and maintains a reliable foundation for governance, discovery, and analysis.
Key Capabilities
The key capabilities include:
- Metadata sync with evolving sources for easy refreshes
- Prevention of metadata drift through incremental updates
- Always-up-to-date metadata without re-crawling cycles
- Seamless initial metadata ingestion
- On-demand synchronization when required
In This Topic:
Default Initial Import
The initial import performs the foundational ingestion of data source, capturing essential structures, properties, and relationships. This creates a consistent baseline that future sync operations build upon, ensuring smooth downstream refreshes.
To enable initial metadata ingestion, you must turn on the Import Data Source option while creating the Data Source. This ensures that the referenced schema is imported during creation and remains eligible for ongoing synchronization. When this option is enabled, the system can seamlessly import and refresh the schema without requiring full re-crawling cycles.
Enabling the Import Data Source Feature
Follow the steps below to enable the Import Data Source option while creating a Data Source to facilitate initial schema ingestion and support ongoing synchronization.
- Log in to your LeapLogic Metadata Catalog.
- From the left navigation pane, select Metadata > Data Catalog.
- Click + on the Data Catalog page.
- Select Repository to create a repository (server instance).
- Provide the repository details and save them.
- Add a data source to the repository by either:
- Clicking Yes in the confirmation popup that appears after saving the repository, or
- Navigating back to the Data Catalog page and clicking the + icon, then selecting Data Source.
- Enter the required Data Source details.
- In the Additional Information section, turn on the Import Data Source toggle.
- Save the Data Source.
On-Demand Sync
On-demand synchronization provides an efficient way to refresh metadata as sources evolve without triggering a full re-crawl. Once a Data Source is created, this feature allows you to manually sync the source whenever required, ensuring the metadata remains current and consistent with the underlying schema.
Using On-Demand Sync
You can manually trigger synchronization for a Data Source whenever needed to refresh metadata without performing a full re-crawl.
To use On-Demand Sync:
- Log in to your LeapLogic Metadata Catalog.
- From the left navigation pane, select Metadata > Data Catalog.
- Click Open Data Catalog.
- Click Details on the preferred repository to open the corresponding Data Source.
- In the required Data Source row, click More Actions (
).
- Select Sync from the dropdown menu.
- Once you trigger the sync action, the system synchronizes the Data Source and updates its metadata accordingly.
