Configuring Tableau to Superset Conversion Stage

This topic offers comprehensive guidance to convert Tableau reports and dashboards to Superset equivalent using the BI Conversion stage.

The following are the steps to configure the Tableau to Superset BI conversion.

In Script Type, select Tableau.
In BI Assessments, select the report from the BI assessments that you want to transform.
In Target Type, select Superset.
To reuse an existing dataset in Superset for generating visuals and reports, turn on the Use Existing Database Connection toggle.
Select Data Configuration to configure the data for conversion.

In Source, select the published data sources or workbooks you need to transform. To select the published data sources or workbooks to transform, follow the steps below:

Select Published Data Source or Tableau Workbook.
Select the required data sources or workbooks from the Published Data Source or Tableau Workbook card.
Click to move the selected data sources or workbooks to the Selected Published Data Source or Selected Tableau Workbook card.

In the Tableau Workbook or Selected Tableau Workbook card, click on the preferred workbook to get more details about the workbook. It includes information about dashboards, data sources, and worksheets along with its associated physical and logical tables.

Similarly, in the Published Data Source or Selected Published Data Source card, click on the preferred data source to get more details about the selected data source. It includes information about dashboards and workbooks along with its associated physical and logical tables.

Note:

When you select a published data source to transform to the target, the associated Tableau files will also be transformed to the target equivalent based on the published ID and path.

In Upload Query File, upload the query file generated as one of the assessment reports by the name Tableau Query Mapping.xlsx. The following are steps to upload the query mapping file:

Go to the Reports section in the assessment.
Download Insights and Recommendations.
The downloaded archived file contains the Tableau Query Mapping.xlsx file.
Open this file, convert the source SQL queries into target equivalent queries and add these converted queries into the transformed_sql_query column accordingly.

Upload the updated Tableau Query Mapping.xlsx file in the Upload Query File field.

To convert worksheets that are not used in the dashboard, turn on the Unused Worksheet Conversion toggle.

In Target Data Source Type, select the target database such as Amazon Athena to which you need to transform the data. This transformed data will act as the source for the Superset BI tool.

In Target Database connection, provide the target database connection details such as host address, database name, etc. If you have turned on the Use Existing Database Connection toggle (to reuse an existing dataset in Superset to generate visuals and reports), then provide database name and associated UUID.

To obtain the UUID of an existing dataset in Superset, follow the below steps:

Open the Superset instance.
Click the Datasets tab from the main menu.
Identify the required dataset that you want to reuse.
Click Export to download the dataset.
The downloaded archived file contains a YAML file in the Dataset folder.
Open that file and locate the UUID of the dataset.

In Custom properties, enter the key and value. This enables you to replace the values at execution/run time for parameterized queries.

Click Save to update the changes.
An alert pop-up message appears. This message prompts you to refer your respective assessment to determine the anticipated quota deduction required when converting your scripts to target. Then click Ok.

Click to provide a preferred pipeline name.
Click to execute the integrated or standalone pipeline. Clicking (Execute) navigates you to the pipeline listing page which shows your pipeline status as Running state. It changes its state to Success when it is completed successfully.
Click on your pipeline card to see reports.
